Cass Castillo is the ex-wife of renowned former NFL quarterback Joe Montana. Although her marriage to Montana ended decades ago, people still want to know about her, all thanks to her ex-husband, Joe Montana’s popularity. Montana had a stellar career in the NFL, winning four Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers; however, he didn’t have a successful married life.

His first two marriages dissolved in divorce within a couple of years; however, Montana, who is famously dubbed “Joe Cool,” has been leading a blissful marital life with his third wife, Jennifer Montana (née Wallace). The duo’s relationship is well documented on the internet; however, there is little to no information about his second wife, Castillo, and their relationship.

So, let’s uncover all the details there are to know about Montana’s former spouse in the following sections.

Cass Castillo’s Marriage To Joe Montana

Castillo and Montana got married in 1981; some sources have mentioned they tied the knot on July 1, 1981. She was a flight attendant by profession at the time she met the former athlete. Castillo is four years older than Joe, which makes her 72 years old as of 2024.

There’s little to no information about their relationship. So, we can’t pinpoint how the former duo met and their romance blossomed. They were married for around three years and didn’t have any children.

They separated in June 1983, after over two years as a married couple. The reason for their separation is not revealed. Having said that, there are some sources that mentioned that Montana’s fellow 49ers teammates described Castillo as an overprotective woman. So, there’s a possibility that Montana’s rising popularity became the cause for their split.

In October 1983, Montana filed for divorce from Castillo. Their divorce was finalized in 1984. According to the reports, Castillo asked for $72,000 a year in temporary support, but the details of their divorce settlement are not available.

Castillo Attended A White House Party With Her Then-Husband, Joe Montana

While almost nothing about Montana’s ex-wife Castillo is out in the media, we have found an interesting fact about her. Castillo and her former husband were among the guests at a White House party on March 25, 1982.

President Ronald Reagan organized the state dinner honoring the Italian President Alessandro Pertini. There are no further details about Castillo and Joe attending the dinner at the White House; however, a couple of photos that Getty Images have kept on for sale show the two entering the party.

Cass Castillo Didn’t Return Montana’s Super Bowl MVP Trophy?

Several newspapers and magazines reported on the situation. They claimed that Montana’s then-estranged wife, Castillo, had not returned several of his possessions after their dispute. One notable item was his 1982 Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy. The news surfaced in the media in March 1984.

The news sources also reported that Cass refused to return an Arabian horse and two dogs that she was keeping at their ranch in Woodside, California, in the documents filed in San Mateo County Superior Court. In the court documents, the four-time Super Bowl winner also accused his then-wife of failing to account for about $60k from the sale of their Huntington Beach house.

However, an old article from Sports Illustrated reports that the news regarding Castillo’s holding of Montana’s MVP Trophy and other football memorabilia was untrue.

Cass Castillo’s Ex-Husband Is Happily Married With Children

After going through two unsuccessful marriages within a decade, Joe finally found the love of his life. Montana met his third and current wife, Jennifer Wallace, an actress and model, while the two worked on a Schick commercial. The two connected instantly and started dating. Joe and Jennifer got married in early 1985 and have been leading a wonderful conjugal life since.

The husband and wife of 39 years are proud parents of four children. The duo have two sons, Nick Montana and Nate Montana, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Alexandra Montana. All four of their kids are grown-ups.

Joe’s sons followed in his footsteps and played football in college but they both couldn’t make their way to the NFL. Nate, who played college football at West Virginia Wesleyan went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft. Likewise, his other son, Nick played a quarterback at Tulane University.

Before, Montana was married to his hometown sweetheart Kim Moses. The duo got married in 1974 when Joe was in his second semester at Notre Dame. Kim worked at Notre Dame Sports Information Office.
