Rico Berrios Played Football and Soccer

Born in April 1968, Rico is the son of  Ricky and Paula Berrios. He grew up with his two brothers, Daniel G. and Matthew A Berrios in Lakeland, Florida. Rico comes from Cuban and Puerto Rican descent.

Talking about his education, he went to Miami Southridge High School where he played soccer. For his further studies, he joined Campbell University with a sports scholarship. He also went to High Point University.

Meanwhile, Rico also kicked for the University of Miami’s football team back in the 80s. At the time, the football team was in its prime.

The 56-year-old is the Vice President of National Accounts at Jaipur Living. He used to be the Vice President of Sales at Massoud Furniture for two years before quitting in 2023. He started his career with American Leather in 2006.

Rico initially was Director of Sales there for five years before being promoted to the Vice President of Sales. He was Vice President for nineteen years.

Braxton’s Parents Were College Sweethearts

Rico met Lee Berrios at Campbell University where she played softball and was a cheerleader. These two got together in college. The pair married and settled in North Carolina where they raised their children.

Unfortunately, the former couple decided to divorce after years of being married. They have been divorced since 2002 and now have moved on with their current partners.

The Former Couple Rico And Lee Shares Two Sons

The ex-couple has two children together, Austin Berrios and Braxton Berrios. Their firstborn, Austin got his degree on Bachelor’s in Administration and Management from East Carolina University, Louisburg College, and North Carolina State University. As for his career, he is working full-time as a Regional Sales Manager at CoAdvantage. Previously, he was a Personal Trainer at 24 Hour Fitness and a Business Consultant at Nextep.

As for their youngest son, Braxton is currently playing for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football as a wide receiver. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The oldest of the two, Austin, used to play college-level football as a wide receiver. He played for North Carolina College and East Carolina University. However, he didn’t pursue his interest in ball as a career choice instead he went forward in the business world.

Unlike him, his younger brother’s dream was to play football in the NFL which he has achieved now. Despite their different career paths, Rico supports both of his sons.

Rico married Jessica Jackson Berrios on September 19, 2009. The married couple lives in Southlake, Texas with their three kids, Jackson, Carson, and Brooks Hamilton Berrios. They had their firstborn, Jackson in February 2010. They then became parents of Carson in October 2011. The newest addition to their family, Brooks arrived in 2014.

Meanwhile, Braxton’s mom married Chad D. Smothers on June 7, 2014. He was Braxton’s coach at Leesville Road High School and that’s how these two met and fell in love. As of now, they are happily living together in Raleigh, North Carolina. Chad now works as an Athletic Director at Knightdale High School.

Smothers has been working as a Study Activation Manager at ICON since 2021. She worked at IQVIA for eight years and at Martin and Jones Attorneys as a Social Security Disability Claimants’ Representative. She started her career as a Middle School Teacher at Asheboro City Schools.

The father and duo shed tears while hugging each other when Braxton got to play for his dream school. Rico shared the moment when his son received a call from the then-recruiting coach of the University of Miami about his admission process.

Braxton always wanted to be a Miami Hurricane and he told the news first to his dad. The proud dad further shared about his son’s habit of writing down his goals. He said, ” He’s got a gift of determination.”
