The New England Patriots are one of the most successful National Football League (NFL) franchises. The Patriots were established as the Boston Patriots in 1959, as a member of the American Football League (AFL). They changed their name to the New England Patriots in 1971, a year after the AFL-NFL merger. Their early years in the league were marked by modest success, where they struggled to find footing.
The Patriots play their home games at Gillette Stadium located in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Before shifting to this venue, the team played in several stadiums. The Patriots played their home games at Nickerson Field for the first two years since their inception.
From 1963 to 1968, they played at Fenway Park followed by the Alumni Stadium in the 1969 season, and at the Harvard Stadium in 1970. From 1971 through 2001, the Patriots played at the Foxboro Stadium.
Championship Wins
The New England Patriots’ legacy is highlighted by their impressive success in the NFL, winning six Super Bowls in 19 years. The Patriots achieved the feat under the leadership of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. The Patriots have won six Super Bowl titles (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, and LIII) and are only the second team to win six Super Bowls after the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Apart from the Super Bowls, the Patriots have won numerous AFC Championships which make them one of the most successful teams in the league.
