The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football team. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as an American Football Conference East division member. They were established in 1965, and they played their first season in 1966, as part of the American Football League before the AFL-NFL merger.
Located in the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, the Dolphins play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium, situated in Miami Gardens. They have been playing in the venue since the 1987 season. Before that, they played at the Miami Orange Bowl.
The Dolphins have experienced periods of remarkable success throughout their history, with the early 1970s being their golden era. They won two back-to-back Super Bowls under the guidance of legendary coach Don Shula.
They have made their mark in the NFL with a total of five Super Bowl appearances. In addition, they have clinched several division titles, reflecting their consistent performance and ability to contend at the highest levels.
Championship Wins
The Dolphins have won two Super Bowl championships. Their two championship wins came in consecutive years:
Super Bowl VII
The Dolphins’ Super Bowl victory in the 1972 season is the NFL’s only perfect season culminating in a Super Bowl win. They thrashed the Washington Redskins with a score of 14-7 in the final ending the season with a 17-0 record.
The Dolphins hence became the first and only team in NFL history to finish a season undefeated and untied from the regular season through the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl VIII
The Miami Dolphins successfully defended their title in the 1973 NFL season. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings by 24-7 to claim their consecutive Super Bowl trophy.
