Monique Brown is the wife of late NFL star and civil rights activist, Jim Brown. Despite their early dispute in their marriage, Monique and her late husband Jim had been together until his death in 2023. The two also had a significant age gap but Manique remained a devoted wife to Jim throughout his life.

She is a former model and an actress. After some modeling gigs in the early ’90s, Monique also started her acting career. She first made her minor appearance in the video game, Survival Arts (1993). After a prolonged hiatus, Brown had a small role in the 2014 American sports drama film, Draft Day. She worked on the project along with some famous actors including Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, and more.

Apart from acting, Jim’s widow also has a few credits as a producer. She first landed her job as a producer in one episode of the TV series, Man, Moment, Machine (2006). She later worked as an associate producer on Frontliners in 2010 and as an executive producer on Jim Brown’s Amer-I-Can Dream in 2016.

Monique Is Involved in Charity Works

She also devotes her valuable time to humanitarian work. Over time, the former model has been involved in a few charitable organizations. She is currently the CEO of The Amer-I-Can Foundation For Social Change. She joined the organization in 1995 and has since been steadily working with the organization.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, the non-profit organization aims to help people develop essential life-management skills.

Born in 1974, Monique spent most part of her life in California, the United States. She was born to Afro-American parents. Unfortunately, her father is no longer alive in this world. She occasionally shares tribute posts about her father on her social media handles. Back in June 2021, Monique shared a series of photos of her late dad with a lengthy caption on her Instagram. She said of her old man,

“You were independent, free thinking men of great courage, strength, intelligence and humanity, and I learned so much from you. Thank you for always being there and for being my first “superhero’s”. I love you forever….and miss you everyday.”

But, her mother is still alive. In June 2017, she shared a beautiful photo of her mother on her Insta on the occasion of her birthday.

The former flames got married in 1997. At the time of their marriage, Jim was about 61 and his wife Monique was in her early 20s. Despite their huge age gap, they had a great matrimonial life, even welcoming two children later in the line.

Talking about their first meeting, the two first came across in the mid ’90s, at a TV station, in Buffalo, New York. The two dated for some time before settling down.

Jim Brown Once Threatened to Kill His Wife, Monique; Their Legal Trouble

In 1999, Jim, who was considered one of the greatest running backs of all time was arrested for making terroristic threats against his wife and also vandalizing her car with a shovel. He was later given a three-year probation and one year of domestic violence counseling. He also received 400 hours of community service but didn’t follow the terms of his punishment.

As a result, Brown was eventually sentenced to six months in jail in early 2002. He served his jail time in a Ventura County Prison, in Thousand Oaks, California. He was released over two months prior in April of that year.

Following his release, his wife Monique said USA Today,

“This is a blessing. It’s just the beginning of a new start. You know, we’re putting everything behind us and going on with our lives.”

They Are Proud Parents of Two Children

Monique had two children with her late hubby Jim. Their son, Aris Brown is a lacrosse player who joined Hampton University in August 2020 and will graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in finance in May 2024.

Further talking about his professional endeavors, Aris is currently a marketing specialist at Deadthancool and the founder of Visionaris LLC. He was also a co-founder of an event company, Sound Eventz from March 2021 to Feb 2023.

Their daughter, Morgan Brown is also into sports and is currently a member of the University of Southern California’s Women’s Soccer Team. She joined the University in August 2021 and will graduate in June 2025. Before that, Morgan went to Sierra Canyon School.

Jim Was Previously Married

Prior to marrying Monique, Jim was formerly married to Sue Jones in September 1959. The two had been married for nearly a decade until Sue filed for divorce in 1968.

The former couple also had three children, twins Kim and Kevin, born in 1960. Their other son James Jr. was born in 1962.

After Brown’s divorce finalized with his first wife, the late NFL star went on to engage with an 18-year-old girl named Diane Stanley in 1973 but they called off their engagement a year later.

For the second time, Jim got engaged to Debra Clark.

Monique and Jim Brown Were Together Until His Death

They had been married until Brown’s passing at the age of 87 on May 18, 2023. He died with his wife by his side in his Los Angeles house. He passed away of natural causes. His burial took place at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia.

Talking about his memorial service, it took a couple of months to organize. Jimmy Haslam, the owner of Browns said about the postponement, “It’s ironic that we wanted to have a memorial service for Jim right after he died, but for a variety of reasons it didn’t work out, and I really can’t think of a better place to honor him than here at the hall of fame.”

The event was held at Zimmermann Symphony Center attended by his wife Monique and their daughter, Kim. “My dad always gave me his time he always told me no bs he checked me, he loved me, he showed his love for me in his actions,” his daughter Kim said at the time.

Following Jim’s passing, his beloved better half Monique also took to Instagram to share the sad news. She wrote in her caption, “He passed peacefully last night at our LA home.”

Where Is Monique Brown Now?

Monique now resides in her house, located in West Hollywood, California. Her late partner Jim bought the mansion there in the late ’60s.

Monique has an estimated fortune of $1 million. On the other hand, her late spouse, Jim who had a height of 6ft 2in had a net worth of $39 million at the time of his death.
