The Green Bay Packers running back, Aaron Jones’ parents were mostly away during his childhood but that only made him value them more. Alvin Jones Sr and Vurgess Jones served in the military for most of Jones’ childhood.

However, the couple retired to spend more time with their kids. Following their retirement, they rarely missed Aaron’s games. Especially his dad, he never missed a game and now the NFL player’s heart breaks at the thought of his father watching his game from heaven.

Aaron Jones’ Parents Served in the US Army

The Green Bay Packers running back, Aaron Jones’ parents Alvin Jones Sr and Vurgess Jones served in the US Army for more than two decades each. Alvin Sr. started his service on March 6, 1984. He served the nation for 29 years and retired as a Command Sergeant on December 31, 2012. While he was a soldier, he received numerous awards and badges. As for Vurgess, she served the army for 27 before retiring in 2016 as a Sergeant Major.

Early Life Details Of Aaron’s Parents

Alvin Sr. was born on September 3, 1964, to William Jones and Mary McInnis in Norfolk, Virginia. He went to Norfolk City Public Schools where he played football. He then joined Thomas Edison State College for a Bachelor’s in Art. Jones Sr. earned his Masters in Management and Leadership from Webster’s University.

As for Vurgess, she is a native of Sumter, South Carolina, and she celebrates her birthday on March 2. There are hardly any details about her parents but she has two siblings, a brother and a sister.

After he retired from the army, he worked in the Hospitality Ministry at the Gospel Service at Fort Bliss. He was also a board member of the West Texas Blazers Basketball and helped his kids to launch a foundation.

A Peek Into Alvin and Vurgess’s Relationship

Alvin Sr. and Vurgess met when they were in the army. These two began dating when they were serving in Korea together. The couple returned to the States, got married, and started their family. However, as they were still in the army, the family traveled a lot. When they were deployed overseas, their kids used to stay with their relatives.

After their retirement, the partners spent most of their time with the kids while they also managed time for themselves and would go on dates.

After he retired from the army, he worked in the Hospitality Ministry at the Gospel Service at Fort Bliss. He was also a board member of the West Texas Blazers Basketball and helped his kids to launch a foundation.

Alvin and Vurgess Jones Had Four Children

Alvin and Vurgess gave birth to four kids as husband and wife. Not much about their firstborn, Xavier is known except for the fact that he works in an airforce. They then became parents to twins Aaron Jones and Alvin Jones Jr. on December 2, 1994. Their twins are an hour apart. Both of them are passionate about football. Aaron currently plays for the Green Bay Packers.

As for Alvin, he played in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens where he played until 2019. After two years away from football, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2021 but was released in 2022.

Their daughter, Chelsi’rae Walker is a registered nurse who studied at Virginia Commonwealth University. Currently, she is a recruiter at a tech company where she helps individuals determine their career paths. Besides, she has volunteered in children’s hospitals and Girl Scouts.

The Kids Spent Most Of Their Childhood Away From Their Parents

As Alvin Sr. and Vurgess were in the army, they moved around a lot for their job and their children had to change schools constantly. When the couple had to go overseas, Aaron and his siblings lived with their uncle in Virginia. Both of their family contributed a lot to the kids. Vurgess’s family enrolled them in school while Alvin’s side was responsible for weekends sports.

Since there were no means for instant conversation back in the day, they used to contact each other via letters. The time away from his parents made him realise about family’s importance.

Aaron Jones’ Parents Retired From The Army For Their Kids

The Jones couple retired from the army to spend time with their kids. Alvin Sr. said in an interview that he set up his military retirement so he would be out of the Army at the start of his children’s senior year.

Since they stopped serving, they dedicated their time to supporting their children and traveling nationwide to watch their games.

Alvin didn’t miss a single game of his sons ever since the twins started playing college football. As for Vurgess, she also attended most of their games, however, she couldn’t all of their matches due to her other engagements.

In the meantime, after he retired from the army, he worked in the Hospitality Ministry at the Gospel Service at Fort Bliss. He was also a board member of the West Texas Blazers Basketball and helped his kids to launch a foundation.

Alvin Sr. Passed Away Due To COVID-19

Jones died on April 6, 2021, at the age of 57. He was a COVID-19 victim who spent his last days in El Paso hospital. The news of his death saddened all the football fans. His funeral was held at Crestview Funeral Home.

Following the death of his father, the running back said,

My dad is the greatest man I’ve ever encountered, The things he’s done for me in my life — he’s been there every step of the way. He taught me everything. He showed me how a man’s supposed to be a man.

Aaron wrote in an Instagram post that despite his heart being torn into a million pieces, he promised to take care of his family. Similarly, Alvin Jr. also shared how his heart was crushed when he got the news. Even though he is no longer with his family, his memories are still with them.

The Twins Founded “A&A All The Way Foundation” With The Help Of Their Parents

Growing up, Aaron and Alvin would always join their parents during volunteer opportunities, inspiring them to start the A&A All The Way Foundation in 2020. Their vision was to provide military families with joy-filled experiences.

Both Alvin Sr. and Vurgess helped around in the organization. The late Jones spearheaded a bike drive and turkey drive for underprivileged families in El Paso, Texas through the foundation. Similarly, Vurgess is in charge of day-to-day operations. She has also participated in various events to raise funds. Their daughter, Walker also supports her brothers in the foundation.
