He attended Colgate University in 1976 and graduated with a B.A. in English in 1980. The same year, Jim went on to join the University of Cincinnati College of Law and earned his JD in 1983.
While at Cincinnati, James played football as a defensive back. He reportedly also won All-American honors in 1986. Not only that but the ex-footballer was also inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 2007.

Jim is a lawyer who has been working in the legal field since the 1980s. He first served as an associate at the law firm called Kaye Scholer LLP. There, the then-budding lawyer worked as a rep for several financial institutions, based in New York from 1986 to 1988.
Later, from 1988 to 1992, Jim also served as an associate at another law firm named Frost Brown Todd, where he crafted his skills in both commercial and corporate law.
In Jan 1992, he landed a job as a senior vice president and chief legal officer for Fifth Third Bancorp, an Ohio-based banking corporation. There, he spent more than two decades, supervising all legal work for the corporation until April 2015.
In August of the year, Hubbard started working as an executive vice president, general counsel & secretary for EverBank, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was with the bank until June 2017.
Soon after, Hubbard bagged the position of Executive Vice President and Counselor for TIAA. After working there for over three years, Jim joined CIT Group Inc. and worked there for about three years.
