Darius Slay is a football cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He moved to the Eagles after playing seven years for the Detroit Lions. Native of Brunswick, Georgia, Darius was born to Stephanie Lowe and Darius Slay Sr.

Darius’ mother, Stephanie was just 13 years old at the time she had him. As a matter of fact, Slay Sr. was just a year senior to her. Darius’ father left his mother shortly after his birth, so his mother raised him alone.

Slay’s father is married to Miranda Oglesby Slay with whom he has a daughter Darielle Slay. Darius is a second cousin of former Lions teammate Tracy Walker.

Regarding his love life, Slay has been with Jennifer Slay since 2015. They have been married since 2018. Jennifer, born Jennifer Williams, grew up in Clinton, Oakland. She graduated high school at Clinton High School and attended Oklahoma State University afterward. She played basketball at college.

The husband and wife have two children together. Darius has two kids, Darion and Demetrius from his previous relationship while his wife also has a son named Trent.

Career Highlights

  • Slay was selected by Detroit Lions in the second round, 36th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.
  • In his rookie season, he played in 13 games, starting in four.
  • In the 2014 season, he played in 16 games, starting in all 16 matches. He finished the season with 61 combined tackles, including 48 solo.
  • He played his first career playoff match in the 2014 season, however, they lost 24-20 to the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Darius finished the 2015 season with 59 overall tackles which included 48 solo tackles.
  • On July 29, 2016, Slay signed a four-year extension contract with the Lions for $48.15 million with $23.1 guaranteed and a $14.5 million signing bonus.
  •  In the 2017 season, Slay recorded a career-high 26 pass deflections and recorded 60 combined tackles, 54 solo.
  • He made his first Pro Bowl selection in the 2017 season.
  • Slay also made a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 as well. He finished the season with 43 combined tackles in 15 matches.
  • He made his third consecutive Pro Bowl in 2019.
  • Darius was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2020. He signed a three-year deal for $50 million with $30 million guaranteed. After joining the Eagles, Slay said he would wear the number #24 jersey in honor of Kobe Bryant who lost his wife that January.
  • In the 2021 season, Slay had to change his jersey number from 24 to 2 due to new NFL jersey rules.
  • Slay reached his first career Super Bowl in 2022 beating San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
