Sherra Sharpe is the sister of former football tight end Shannon Sharpe, who spent a significant part of his NFL career, playing with the Denver Broncos. However, the Sharpe siblings went through a lot during their childhood. Sherra, Shannon, and their older brother, Sterling were raised by their late grandmother who used to live in Tison, Georgia.

Unlike her brothers, Sherra relatively lives a low-key life. Let’s explore some hidden details about her in the following article!

Sherra Sharpe Is Shannon Sharpe’s Older Sister

Sherra has been in the limelight as the sister of former NFL star, Shannon. Although the details about her date of birth are unavailable, Sherra is older than Shannon. Born on June 26, 1968, the earliest tight end is currently 56 years old.

They also have an older brother, Sterling Sharpe, who was born on April 6, 1965. Like her brother, Sterling is also a former football star who played with the Green Bay Packers (1988–1994).

Sherra and her siblings were born in Chicago, Illinois.

Who Are Sherra’s Parents? She Was Raised By Her Grandparents

She is the daughter of Peter Dixon and Mary Alice Dixon. Her father was an airport skycap. However, her parents weren’t well-settled when it came to their financial condition. Due to this, when Shannon was just two months old, their mother sent all of her kids to live with their grandparents, Mary Viola Porter and Barney Porter in a poor, rural town in southeast Georgia.

It was a thousand-square-foot house always packed with relatives. Mary had also been raising nine of her own children. In a small house, it was tough for her to make sleeping arrangements. Her brother, Shannon, used to sleep with their grandmother, whereas Sterling slept with their grandfather.

Both of Her Grandparents Are Dead Now

Unfortunately, both of her maternal grandparents are no longer alive. Her grandfather, Barney, passed away from a stroke in 1977. Her grandmother, Mary, died in July 2011 at the same nursing home, in Glennville, where Porter worked for years to make ends meet for her several children and grandchildren. She was 89 at the time of her passing. She was diagnosed with diabetes before her demise.

Following her passing, her beloved grandson, Shannon, stated to The Denver Post,

I’m thankful I got to spend 43 years with her and She got to see the type of man I became.

Just a month later, Shannon was scheduled to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was given about 12 minutes to talk about his late grandma in the ceremony. He said,

“She’ll be able to hear my (Hall of Fame) speech now. She would not have been able to understand my speech in the body she was in. She’ll be able to hear my speech in the body she has now.

More On Sherra’s Brothers

As we said, both of Sherra’s brothers, Sterling and Shannon, are successful American footballers. Sterling spent his entire career, playing with the Packers from 1988 to 94. He played his college football at the University of South Carolina and was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

On the other hand, her younger brother, Shannon, played college football for the Savannah State Tigers. He made his NFL draft with the Denver Broncos in 1990 and played with the team until 1999.
